Health and Safety -Shower Cleaning and Disinfection 

If the flushing regime has lapsed, ensure to drain stagnant potentially contaminated water from the shower or tap, including any dead leg, without generating aerosols before usage.

Emergency showers, eyebaths and face-wash fountains -Clean and disinfect shower heads, nozzles, roses, ‘Y’ strainers, and water storage tanks (where fitted Quarterly, or more frequently, as indicated by the risk assessment)​.

The HSE recommends cleaning and descaling showerheads at least every three months to maintain safety and compliance with health regulations.

Showerheads can harbour biofilms where Legionella bacteria thrive, Regular cleaning helps disrupt the growth of these bacteria.

Showers and Spray taps - ​Dismantle, clean and descale removable parts, heads, inserts and hoses where fitted Quarterly or as indicated by the rate of fouling or other risk factors, e.g. areas with high risk patients.
