Trusted and efficient.
Stagnant water occurs when water is not actively used, leading to underused pipes that remain static. These dead legs segments have minimal flow, allowing for the accumulation of nutrients, scale, and biofilm, which create a habitat for Legionella.
Health and Safety - Weekly Flushing and Monthly Monitoring
To minimize the risk of legionella growth in seldom-used outlets, regular use is essential. If outlets aren't frequently used, weekly flushing for several minutes can significantly reduce legionella proliferation. This procedure must be consistently logged, as lapses can lead to critical increases in legionella levels In high-risk areas like healthcare and care homes, more frequent flushing may be necessary based on risk.

Infrequently used equipment within a water system (i.e. not used for a period equal to or greater than seven days) should be included on the weekly flushing regime. Flush the outlets until the temperature at the outlet stabilises and is comparable to supply water and purge to drain.

Monthly monitoring is essential to comply with HSG and ACOP. Hot water must be stored at 60°C, and 50°C at outlets (55°C in healthcare premises) within 1 minute, cold water should be under 20°C within 2 minutes.
